Atletico Madrid are planning to sell defender Renan Lodi to the Premier League this summer, whether Nottingham Forest stay up or do not.
That’s according to AS, who bring up the defender today amid a look at Atletico’s plans for the summer window.
They explain that a long-term injury to Reinildo, who will be out for 7-8 months, has forced the Spanish side to look at signing a fullback at the end of the season.
They are exploring options around Europe but it appears one they are not considering is bringing back Lodi from Nottingham Forest.
He has been with them since last summer, when he moved to England on loan to get regular gametime ahead of the World Cup.
He’s been in Steve Cooper’s side ever since but it remains to be seen whether he will remain at the club at the end of the season.
Nottingham Forest have an option to turn his loan into a permanent switch if they wish to, but that decision will likely be dependent on whether they stay in the Premier League.
Either way, it seems Atletico have a plan to keep Lodi in England, with AS stating that the ‘idea’ at the Wanda Metropolitano is to ‘look for a transfer’ for him in the Premier League.
The insinuation is that there could be interest in him outside of Nottingham Forest, who may face competition for the Brazilian if they decide to sign him permanently.
