Roma director of football Tiago Pinto has ‘restored relations’ with West Ham United in an attempt to get a deal for Gianlucca Scamacca over the line.
That’s according to Il Messaggero, relayed by Planeta Roma, who cover the potential move for the striker this summer.
The newspaper explains that Roma chief Pinto remains keen on a deal for Scamacca, despite competition from Inter Milan and the fact Jose Mourinho has made it clear he wants Alvaro Morata.
Talks are underway to try and sign the Spaniard from Atletico Madrid, but they want €20m and that would be a ‘very big investment’ for a 30-year-old player. Indeed, it would be too much for Roma given the financial limits placed on them in a “conciliation agreement” with UEFA.
Mourinho is insisting on the transfer though, making his will clear. Morata is also keen on the move so long as he doesn’t have to give up any of his current salary.
With money as it is, though, other options will have to be looked at and that includes getting Scamacca from West Ham.
He’s been linked with a move away from the London Stadium throughout the summer so far after a miserable first year at West Ham in which he struggled to replicate the form he’d shown at Sassuolo.
Roma have him among their options and Pinto ‘continues to talk’ to the Hammers about a potential loan deal for the striker.
It seems that, despite Mourinho’s desire to get Morata, he wants to keep his options open and is trying to keep West Ham sweet in the hope of closing a loan deal.
