Barcelona have worked out a payment plan to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City this summer, even if the Premier League champions won’t lower their demands for him.
That’s according to Sport, who say Barcelona have agreed to a particular formula to try and get the Portugal international after years of chasing him.
The newspaper, relaying information from TV3, report that Barcelona have worked out a formula that would see them pay for the Manchester City star in three instalments.
He has agreed to a release clause worth €58m with Manchester City, who would be willing to allow Barcelona to pay it in three instalments of €19m over three years.
Barcelona now need to decide whether to activate the signing or not in this summer market, although they will need to secure a sale to generate space in the salary limit to fit him in.
The transfer will also be dependent on new manager Hansi Flick deciding if he wants the Portuguese star or not. His predecessor, Xavi, had fully backed the move.
The release clause was agreed upon with Manchester City by Silva’s agent Jorge Mendes during his last contract renewal. That was to try and facilitate a move for the midfielder, who has been asking to leave for the past two summers.
Manchester City have promised to open the doors for him as long as any suitor pays the €58m release clause. Aware of Barcellona’s financial issues, he also secured terms that would allow them to pay in instalments. Silva is willing to lower his wages to facilitate a deal.
At the moment Barcelona can’t push forward with a solution but those in charge at the Camp Nou are trying to find a solution. They may even activate another ‘lever’ with Barça Studios.
Another option would be one of the current midfield options departing, which would give them funds and potentially make the Manchester City man more of a priority target.
