Leeds United are in the running to sign Lyon’s Tanner Tessmann in the summer.
The Premier League side’s interest in the American first emerged in the UK.
Leeds United and Brentford are his admirers, and both are reportedly looking to sign him before the World Cup.
Claims made in the UK, especially about Leeds United, have reached the French press. Le Progrès, relayed by Jeunes Footeux, now cover the latest on the Whites and Lyon’s stance on him.
The Ligue 1 side took the defensive midfielder from Italian side Venezia in August 2024, and he played 76 matches. This includes 2,546 minutes from 41 matches this season.
Encouragement for Leeds United
Daniel Farke’s side have made a move, likely to secure his services quickly, before the World Cup.
Despite being a regular, Tanner Tessmann has never been a key figure at Lyon and that didn’t change after his performances this season. He hasn’t managed to have a huge impact on the outcome of games.
The 24-year-old’s form isn’t good enough for him to be a key part of Lyon’s project, but he attracts interest from England. Therefore, the French club ‘won’t stand in his way’ if there’s a good offer in the upcoming window.
Le Progrès state there’s a threshold of €15m excluding bonuses. If Leeds United were to offer this fee and find an agreement with the player, he will be sold.
For this price, selling Tessmann seems to be a market opportunity for his club, after he had a ‘decent season’.
The American’s contract expires in 2029, and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €10m. The highest value was €12m in December 2025.
Leeds United looking at other midfielders
Sporting midfielder Hidemasa Morita has long been on the Whites’ agenda and his contract expires in June.
Last month, Sport Witness relayed news Leeds United are likely his next destination.
As well as the Japan international, Dynamo Dresden’s Kofi Amoako is another defensive midfield target.
