Inter Milan will be keeping a close eye on Marco Asensio’s progress at Aston Villa between now and the end of the season after also being offered the Spaniard.

That’s according to Sport Mediaset, who say the Italian club carefully considered Asensio when he was offered by Jorge Mendes.

The newspaper explains that Inter fans have made it clear that they feel more should have been done in the window by the club.

The club was aware of their desire for signings and the feeling that work needed to be done, so much so that Jorge Mendes’ willingness to take Asensio to the club was evaluated.

The club’s hierarchy considered the deal but ultimately shelved it as they could not move players on to make room for the Spaniard. As a result, Asensio ended up joining Aston Villa on loan from PSG instead.

He could be considered something of an ‘opportunity not seized’ but his next few months at Aston Villa will clarify that point. They’ll be watching how Asensio gets on under Emery at Aston Villa to make a determination on that.

They’ll presumably be hoping that he doesn’t shine at Villa Park, justifying their decision not to move on deadline day for him.
