It wouldn’t really be the run up to a transfer window without Atletico Madrid being linked with a move for Alexandre Lacazette.

The Frenchman has been the subject of interest from the Spanish club since before he made the move to London from Lyon in 2017. Arsenal won the battle at that stage yet the player’s future has increasingly been put under doubt.

Turning 30-years-of-age this month, the striker has a contract with the Gunners lasting until June 2022, so this summer may seem a natural time to part ways. Mikel Arteta has given Lacazette 41 appearances across all competitions this season, and he’s scored 17 goals and contributed three assists to his teammates.

Spain’s Fichajes report Atletico Madrid interest hasn’t gone away, with Diego Simeone still seeing the player as someone who would be a key recruit. Having taken Moussa Dembele on loan from Lyon, the suggestion is he’d be sent back to Ligue 1, and Atletico ‘will once again try’ to sign Lacazette.

Relations between Arsenal and the La Liga side aren’t great after the Thomas Partey move last summer, so Simeone will have to hope a little bridge building can be done.
