Earlier today, we covered claims from Italy which stated Lazio have started negotiations with Sunderland over a potential deal for Jack Clarke.
Maurizio Sarri has requested the Serie A side sign a new winger in the winter market and they now have their eyes set on the Black Cats star.
Monday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport states Lazio president Claudio Lotito and sporting director Mariano Fabiani ‘will try until the last moment’ to please Sarri.
It’s claimed the Biancocelesti are trying to take Clarke away from Sunderland, but it’s not easy.
The report indicates Michael Beale’s side have rejected a €16m bid for the player, likely from Lazio.
His contract lasts until 2026 and Corriere state the Championship side value him at €30m, since they have to pay 25% of the fee from his future sale to his former club, Tottenham Hotspur.
Sunderland are aiming to keep the 23-year-old and sell him for €30m next summer. It’s explained that the Black Cats didn’t open the exit door for Clarke but ‘there is time’ for the Italian club to try and convince them.
Corriere add that if Sunderland ‘continue to ask for disproportionate amounts, nothing will happen’.
Therefore, it’s very unlikely he’ll be going to Lazio. As we explained earlier, Serie A clubs often have unreasonable ideas of what top Championship players will cost and are often disappointed when they find out the reality.
