Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté has emerged as a surprise target for Galatasaray, according to A Spor in Turkey.
The centre-back has struggled with two different injuries and it has restricted him to 17 appearances this season. This hasn’t put off the Süper Lig side, though, who are in the market for a new defender at the instruction of their manager, Okan Buruk.
Victor Nelsson is expected to leave and the Istanbul club have identified the Liverpool player as the candidate to replace him.
It’s claimed Galatasaray ‘will take concrete steps’ to sign the France international in the ‘next few days’.
Jürgen Klopp’s side, who paid around €40m for the former RB Leipzig man, won’t allow him to leave on a permanent deal, as A Spor state they will only consider sanctioning a loan move in the next window.
The report also adds the defender seems to be willing to leave Liverpool for the Turkish club so that he can enjoy more game time next season.
It does seem A Spor haven’t taken into account his injury record this season, which is why Konaté’s game time has been limited, and it remains to be seen to see if this surprise claim will be backed up in England or indeed elsewhere.
