On Friday, Jijantes reported Arsenal have initiated contact with Barcelona over signing Jules Koundé in the summer window.
Sport back up Jijantes’ claim that Arsenal have made an approach for the 25-year-old and then provide their own take on the La Liga side’s stance.
Barca will be forced to sell one of their key players to improve their finances, which is needed to make new additions to their squad this summer.
The France international has impressed for the Catalan club while operating in the heart of the back four and also as a right-back. He’s part of their project, but their financial needs could force them to sell.
After Arsenal made contact, it’s claimed Barcelona ‘did make it clear’ to them that Koundé won’t be sold for less than €60m. Sport add they have asked the Gunners for time before giving their final response.
That’s because Koundé’s future is linked to that of Ronald Araújo, who has a contract until 2026 and has so far refused to sign an extension.
The former Sevilla man will continue at the Camp Nou if Araújo is sold this summer. If not, the report says Barca ‘will open negotiations’ with Arsenal to sell Koundé for a fee of no less than €60m.
