Cast your mind back to the end of the summer transfer window, and all the chaos of last minute rumours.

One of those was Barcelona offering €70m for RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo. The claims were quickly dismissed, at least partly due to Barca’s financial situation, but also given how late it was in the market.

There’s a chance that any approach was just part of preparation by Barcelona, with Saturday’s issue of Mundo Deportivo having Olmo splashed across the front page.

They claim signing the Spaniard is a priority for the Blaugrana in 2022, whether that be in January or the next summer market. Mateu Alemany isn’t hiding the club’s interest, and it’s thought Olmo would be a perfect fit for Ronald Koeman’s side.

On top of that, it’s explained RB Leipzig will ‘open the door’ to a sale given the 23-year-old’s contract expires in 2023, however, it’s worth noting the date is listed as 2024 elsewhere.

Olmo ‘fits in every way’ with how Barcelona are looking to take things forward, and he also has experience of being in La Masia.

The big question on this story is related to when the player’s contract actually ends, because if it’s 2024 rather than 2023 then it makes things more difficult.
