Having returned from his loan spell at Atlético Madrid last season, where he made only three league starts, Lucas Torreira quickly found out that he wasn’t included in Mikel Arteta’s plans at Arsenal this campaign.

The Gunners allowed the midfielder to join Fiorentina on a season-long loan deal in the last window and the Serie A side retain an option to make his stay permanent next summer.

Torreira has been a key figure in the defensive midfield position under the orders of Vincenzo Italiano, making 16 league appearances, which includes 14 starts.

La Viola can retain the Uruguay international beyond this season by paying €15m to the north London club.

According to La Nazione, relayed by Calciomercato, the Italian club have the willingness to trigger the option to buy the former Sampdoria man for the aforementioned figure, unless there are further arrangements for any possible discounts.

It’s claimed Fiorentina leaders ‘will meet’ the Premier League side’s officials at the ‘end of January’ to sort out a deal to buy Torreira.

Arsenal would be keen to get rid of the player, who has less than 18 months left on his contract at the Emirates.

They probably won’t be so keen on giving out a discount.
