Following reports that Sunderland had rejected a €16m bid from Lazio for Jack Clarke, the Serie A side are not going to give up on him.
While Corriere dello Sport stated that director of football Mariano Fabiano would try until the end of the window to make Maurizio Sarri happy, there was no mention of a new bid.
Il Messaggero, relayed by Calciomercato, do bring that possibility up, however, and the belief is Sunderland need to brace themselves.
They explain that Clarke is the ‘first name’ on the list to bolster Lazio’s attack this January late on in the transfer window, which is why €16m were initially sent to the Stadium of Light to try and buy him.
Sunderland said no, and are ‘for the moment stonewalling’, since they want a report €25m from a deal, knowing they owe 25% of a future transfer to Tottenham.
Lazio aren’t deterred, however, and ‘a new attempt will be made’ to try and convince the Black Cats to part ways with their star player.
The 23-year-old has been the star of the show for the Championship side this season, scoring 13 goals in 29 appearances in the league, as well as picking up three assists.
That’s why Lazio want to buy him from Sunderland, and a new offer is likely on its way.
