Saint Etienne ‘will make the effort’ to sign Everton defender Niels Nkounkou this summer as ‘everyone is in favour’ of the transfer taking place.

That’s according to Peuple Vert, who say that the defender has convinced everyone at the club to try and sign him permanently as he continues to shine on loan.

Nkounkou joined the French side on loan from Everton in the January transfer window, bringing an end to a similar spell at Cardiff, which had not worked out how either side had planned.

After initially struggling the 22-year-old has established himself as a star for Saint Etienne over the last few months, bagging six goals and six assists in 16 games in Ligue 2 so far.

Several reports have made it clear they will be taking their option to sign Nkounkou from Everton on a permanent basis and Peuple Vert back that up.

They report that the Saint Etienne ‘want to keep’ the defender beyond the end of the season as the player has blossomed during his time with them so far.

He ‘seems favourable’ to the idea of extending his stay at the club and with a club and with a €2m option to do so, the club ‘will make the effort’ to do so.

Everyone at the club is in favour of that happening and the belief is that there ‘should definitely’ become a permanent member of the squad in the coming weeks.
