Leeds United and Marseille are both interested in Feyenoord’s Igor Paixão.
On Wednesday, RTV Rijnmond reported the Dutch club aim to make Paixão their record sale, surpassing the current record of €35m from Santiago Giménez’s transfer to AC Milan in January.
Two days later, Gianluca Di Marzio reported Leeds United are pushing hard to sign the 25-year-old this summer. Later that day, claims from the Netherlands reported the Whites aren’t giving up despite seeing their initial bid rejected.
Feyenoord Transfermarkt took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report that Leeds are ‘very close to closing’ a deal with the Dutch club for Paixão. They also stated Marseille will present their final offer on Sunday, but that hasn’t happened yet.
Daniel Farke’s side are yet to reach a formal agreement with the player, who has agreed terms with the French club. If they were to convince Paixão, they can quickly wrap up this operation.
That won’t be easy if a fresh report, published on Monday morning, from L’Equipe is to be believed. The French newspaper reports Leeds United made an offer worth €32m including bonuses over the weekend to Feyenoord, who are said to have requested €35m for the Brazilian.
The Ligue 1 club already have an agreement in place with the attacker but not with the Eredivisie club.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side made two offers of €16m and €28m including bonuses, which were rejected by Feyenoord. Some sources suggest their second proposal was on loan with a mandatory purchase option.
Leeds making a higher offer hasn’t put off Marseille as the newspaper reports they will raise their bid to sign the 25-year-old.
According to L’Equipe, the French club will make a ‘third, more generous offer’ to try and find an agreement with Feyenoord. There’s no mention of the fee they will propose, but the new bid can help them snatch Paixão from Leeds’ clutches.
