River Plate intend to be ‘inflexible’ if Chelsea make a firm approach to sign highly rated youngster Ian Subiabre in the near future.

That’s according to journalist Gustavo Yarroch, relayed by Soy del Millo, who insists that any interest from Chelsea is in its infancy.

Subiabre is considered one of the rising stars in Argentina and has apparently already earned interest in Europe, with Chelsea thought to be admirers.

A recent report poured fire on that idea by insisting that his agent, Claudio Caniggia, was travelling to England to meet with Chelsea’s directors about the youngster.

That has raised concern at River Plate, but Yarroch insists the interest, and a possible transfer, is very much in the early stages at this point.

“There is interest, but speaking of a possible transfer, this is absolutely in its infancy,” he is quoted as saying.

“There is a very long stretch left for the operation to be completed. River is not interested in selling him today and, if necessary, the directors set the termination clause of €30m.”

Soy del Millo add to this slightly, insisting that the Argentine side ‘will be inflexible’ in the face of any call from Chelsea. They intend to make the Blues ‘take out their wallet’.

The question is whether that figure is enough to see off Chelsea for the time being or if they push forward, with the spotlight on the meeting with Caniggia and that very likely to set the basis for any negotiations.
