Standard Liège will attempt to secure Gavin Bazunu from Southampton before tonight’s transfer deadline.
That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who reports that the Belgian side want the goalkeeper on a ‘straight loan’.
According to his information, work is underway between the various parties to make the deal happen in the final hours of the transfer window.
The 22-year-old has found himself out of the picture at Southampton this season, failing to make a single appearance in the Premier League and only managing three appearances in Premier League 2 after returning from an Achilles tendon rupture.
He appears to be behind Aaron Ramsdale, Joe Lumley and Alex McCarthy in the pecking order at Southampton and it seems Liège want to take advantage of that.
The question is whether a deal can be done given the lateness of the Belgian side’s move. The fact they are only pursuing a straight loan and nothing more could work in their favour on that front.
It will be a rush, but it appears that Liège are going to work on it either way and hope they can get everything finalised with Southampton in time.
