As the European media continues to link Manchester City to Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, the Portuguese press bring their response to the rumour.

On Sunday, it was Correio da Manhã who featured a story on the Premier League side’s chase of the player. The Portuguese newspaper makes it clear that Benfica are not planning to sell Darwin Nunez so soon.

They claim that the Eagles’ idea is to keep the striker for at least two seasons, and they add that he’s very well protected for now, since his contract includes a release clause of €150m.

This isn’t the first time the Portuguese media says something like that. A couple of weeks ago, also covering the Manchester City rumours, newspaper Record also said Benfica planned to keep Darwin Nunez until 2022.

At that time, the outlet managed to speak to the player’s agent, who confirmed that there are many clubs following the striker this season, but he didn’t mention Pep Guardiola’s side.

Benfica spent €20m to sign Nunez from Almeria last summer. He has five goals and six assists in 11 appearances for them so far.
