Liverpool could turn their attention back to Juventus winger Federico Chiesa this summer, if he does well for Italy at Euro 2024.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who say the Premier League could focus on the Italian again this year and the race would be ‘starting with Liverpool’.
They explain that Chiesa and Juventus are currently negotiating a potential extension to his existing contract, which is set to end next summer.
Juventus want to keep him, but they want an agreement struck quickly, preferably before Euro 2024 in Germany this summer. Without that, his contract situation will attract opportunistic clubs.
The belief is that if Chiesa performs well at the Euros for Luciano Spalletti’s team then his agents could start demanding more than they current are, and there may be clubs trying to lure him away too.
The Premier League in particular have long been keen on him and ‘starting with Liverpool’ there could be plenty of sides ‘turning the spotlight on’ the player and trying to lure him away from Turin.
They would be boosted, of course, by the fact the 26-year-old’s contract only has a year left on it and Juventus would need to sell to avoid losing him on a free next year.
The question is whether Liverpool would actually be in the race. They’re well stocked for players in that position at present and have more pressing matters to deal with given Jurgen Klopp is departing.
It would presumably all rest on Mohamed Salah, who has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia once again. If he departs, Chiesa would be a potential option to replace him, and it seems Juventus are wary of that.
