West Ham United’s effort to sign Lucas Paquetá at the end of the transfer window only puts Lyon in a position to make huge money with the sale. And that’s explained today in a story from French outlet Le Progres, who are local to the club.
Following the Hammers bids this week, their story points out that the Ligue 1 side will demand between €50m and €70m for the move, hoping they can break their transfer record given ‘panic buys’ in the final week of the market.
That doesn’t mean Lyon are only focused on convincing West Ham of paying so much. Le Progres points out that other clubs are interested in the midfielder, and the French club are ‘counting on other candidates to come forward, including big teams’.
Paquetá’s most likely destination is clearly the Premier League, as his agent has been in London to sort out his move. It’s also said that ‘England attracts him’, despite feeling good at Lyon.
It’s been well known that Newcastle United have also been interested in the player, so West Ham better be aware of that situation, or they may miss out on a player they seem very close to signing.
