On Friday morning, we covered the first reports from the Dutch media claiming PSV are interested in Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi.
It was stated the Eindhoven side are making a move late in the transfer window to land the 27-year-old, whose contract with the Premier League club expires in less than a year.
It turns out that as De Telegraaf now shares an update on this chase, besides claiming the clubs are already in talks for the move, they say PSV’s intention is to sign El Ghazi from Aston Villa for free.
The Dutch side are aware that the winger is unlikely to get many minutes in Steven Gerrard’s side this season, and to take advantage of the situation, they don’t want to pay a fee to sign him.
On PSV’s side, there’s apparently the player’s will, as De Telegraaf claims El Ghazi is ‘open’ to a transfer to Eindhoven.
Aston Villa spent €9m to sign the winger from Lille in 2019. Out of Gerrard’s plans, he was loaned to Everton last January, and stayed at Goodison Park until the end of last season.
Still, it seems the Villans won’t be so soft in talks. De Telegraaf claims that PSV asking for a free transfer is ‘too much’ for the Premier League side for now, so the talks should continue.
