Tottenham and AS Roma are currently two of the hottest names in the Italian media, with reported talks over Toby Alderweireld and Nicolo Zaniolo taking centre stage.
We’ll focus on the Belgian in this article, as he appears to be the closest to an exit between the two.
Starting with Gazzetta dello Sport, it’s been made clear that Tottenham will not be entertaining the previously reported €10-12m offers Roma wanted to make for the 30-year-old, and that’s been pushed up to around €20m.
However, Roma are reportedly ‘intent’ on closing a deal for Alderweireld for less than €20m, and they’re banking on two things to get that done.
Firstly, the Belgium international has already agreed terms with the Serie A side, and secondly, the fact he only has one year left on his contract.
They explain all this chatter is likely to take place in a meeting between Tottenham and Franco Baldini, but they don’t say when, exactly.
Corriere dello Sport, on the other hand, do, and state this encounter between the two parties will happen on Monday.
The former Spurs director of football is expected to sit down with the Tottenham board and discuss the Alderweireld deal, and the newspaper corroborate what their counterparts said: he has an agreement over the contract.
All in all, this one seems to be edging closer to completion, and it seems we’re now waiting to see whether or not the centre-back is included in a deal for Zaniolo or if it ends up being a standalone transfer.
