Following Sporting’s league title, there’s no doubt the Lions’ squad would have a big growth in their market value, especially with so many young players standing out.
Based on Transfermarkt’s latest update, newspaper A Bola features a story saying the total valuation growth has been of €100m, and that should have some impact in the transfer market.
As Nuno Mendes is pointed out as the player whose price has risen the most, there’s one specific club who are linked to him, and that’s Manchester City.
Now what the Premier League champions should be aware of is that Sporting are planning to turn the left-back into the biggest sale the club have ever made.
A Bola points out he’s protected by a release clause of €70m, and that allows Sporting to make big demands for his sale. The club’s current record belongs to Bruno Fernandes, who left for Manchester United on a €55m deal.
A Bola doesn’t say a lot about Manchester City this time, as the story talks about all the players in the squad, but Pep Guardiola’s side have been linked to the full-back for many months, and now continue to be pointed out as the strongest contenders, even though the Red Devils were said to be interested at some point as well.
The good thing for the Sky Blues is that they have a partnership with Sporting, and are also expected to agree the permanent move of Pedro Porro, who’s been in loan with the Lisbon side this season.
Therefore the relationship between the clubs is one of the reasons why Manchester City keep being named as the main contenders for Mendes’ signing.
