Last month, claims came from several sources, both in France and Spain, that Sadio Mane was a genuine target for Real Madrid.
The rumours got serious, they were believable and likely based on at least some truth. Zinedine Zidane had considered the Liverpool player for the last summer window, but that all went up in smoke when he left Madrid.
On his return, with an expected big summer budget, and with Mane in top form, it all made a lot of sense.
However, just because Zidane wants a player doesn’t mean he can get him, and it was always going to be a long shot. Liverpool are unlikely to look well on a sale, and even if they did the price would be so high it’d give Real Madrid a fright.
It’s explained Mane would be a ‘luxury’ target, and it would be ‘necessary’ for him to tell Liverpool he wants out. That’s what it’s believed Eden Hazard has done with Chelsea, but the big difference is the Belgian has a year left on his contract… Mane’s deal runs until 2023.
El Confidencial believe the player ‘could cost over €150m’. They’re probably right.
