Santos FC are reportedly reacting positively about selling midfielder Thiago Maia to Chelsea.
According to Goal Brasil, the Brazilian club have already even set a price for the transfer. They would want at least €20m for their share.
As Santos only have 70% of the player’s rights, the total amount of this transfer would end up being €28.5m, unless the player gives up on receiving his 30%.
If we remember what was claimed by ESPN Brasil earlier this month, that’s good news for Chelsea. The website said the Blues were ready to offer this exact €20m. So if both pieces of information are accurate, this bid is enough to buy Santos’ part, with only Thiago left to be convinced.
Since Thiago’s share belongs only to him and his family (there are no agents behind it), it would be probably easier for Chelsea to negotiate it.
The 19-year-old has been by far the best player for the Brazilian Olympic team so far. That was quite a surprise for fans and media, since Thiago keeps a low profile and was never considered on the same level as the other stars.
He has a €50m release clause, but the Santos president Modesto Roma thinks they can’t get much more than €20m, probably because he’s not a striker.
He certainly doesn’t know how a good midfielder can be well rated in English football.
