Erik ten Hag arrived at Manchester United last summer and the manager allowed Eric Bailly to spend last season on loan at Marseille.
The Ligue 1 side decided against making his loan deal permanent and the defender will have to return to the Premier League side, where he has no future.
According to AS, Manchester United are trying to get rid of the centre-back in the summer window.
Having lost both Víctor Ruiz and Edgar González, Real Betis are in the market looking for a left-footed centre-back.
Although the Ivory Coast international is right-footed, the report says he has emerged as a target for the La Liga side since the Red Devils want to part ways with him. The 29-year-old’s experience and profile would also be welcomed by Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
Bailly has a contract until 2024 and his current salary at Manchester United is something that Los Verdiblancos wouldn’t be able to match.
Despite this, it’s claimed Real Betis sporting director Ramón Planes has ‘confidence’ that Ten Hag’s side will allow him to leave as a free agent and also pay ‘good part’ of his salary to terminate his contract. This would allow them to undertake the defender’s signing.
It remains to be seen if Manchester United will let go of Bailly as a free agent.
