Italian side Salernitana are waiting for Everton to open up to a loan deal for striker Neal Maupay before moving for him this summer.
That’s according to La Citta di Salerno, who say the Italian side are sitting patiently waiting for Everton to sanction a deal for the striker.
Maupay is expected to leave Everton this summer following a disappointing first year at Goodison Park last year following a move from Brighton.
Salernitana have long been credited with an interest in the Frenchman after first trying to sign him in the January transfer window.
They’ve retained their interest since then and a report back in May stated that Salernitana were ‘determined’ to make a ‘decisive effort’ to sign the striker this summer.
There’s been few reports since then but La Citta report today that Maupay remains on their list of targets as they look to bolster Paulo Sousa’s squad.
They, though, seemingly aren’t interested in a permanent transfer but are instead waiting for Everton to open up to the prospect of a loan deal.
The suggestion is that they are waiting for Everton to do their own business strengthening their forward line.
The belief, it seems, is that if Everton can get the players they want, then they’ll be open to loaning out Maupay and Salernitana are waiting for that moment to arrive.
Given they’re an Italian club they’ll likely seek a loan deal with a purchase clause, which they will absolutely have no intention of using and instead spend next summer negotiating with the Toffees over again.
