Even though Benfica had first been reported as a potential destination for Wolverhampton Wanderers fullback Ruben Vinagre this summer, we now see their Lisbon rivals Sporting getting strong in the race as well.

The Lions’ interest has been reported by the Portuguese media for a couple of weeks now, and today, newspaper O Jogo has a little more to say about it.

The outlet writes that Vinagre is the ‘preferred’ option that Sporting have for the left-back position in this transfer market, as the club have been impressed with the loan spell that the player had at Famalicão this season.

Still, there are still a couple of difficulties for the Lions to get things done.

The first one is the price, since it would ‘probably’ take over €5m to sign Vinagre.

There’s also the fact that Bruno Lage is still to make his first decisions at Wolves.

So for Vinagre to move, the manager would have to authorise his departure first.

Loaned to Famalicão in January, Vinagre only made 20 appearances in the Portuguese league, and was that enough to get big praise from the local media.
