On Thursday we covered claims from Spain that Joselu had almost completed a transfer from Newcastle United to Alaves.
He wanted more time on the pitch, and it had become clear that wouldn’t happen at the Premier League club, if Rafael Benitez continues or not.
The move was presented as almost done, although no details were given on the transfer.
Then on Friday it was again reported the move was imminent, with Marca revealing the transfer fee. They reported Newcastle United would be receiving just €2m for the 29 year old, and that Joselu himself was having to take a pay cut to make the move happen.
Since then it’s been quiet.
Now Mundo Deportivo report Alaves are just ‘waiting to announce’ the signing, with everything in place for the transfer to be completed. The confirmation is thought to be ‘a matter of hours’ away, with everything agreed between Joselu and the Spanish club.
However, Mundo also add: ‘it only remains that the striker can be dissociated from the contract year that remains with Newcastle.’
That would suggest the transfer fee isn’t as done and dusted as Marca claimed, with it sounding like Alaves are trying for a free deal. Newcastle should note how West Ham got tough this summer selling Lucas Perez to the La Liga side, and they can probably get their €2m.
