While Claudio Echeverri waits to join Manchester City at the end of the year, he’s been exhibiting his great potential at his club River Plate.
Last night, the midfielder played his first Copa Libertadores match, in a 2-0 away win against Deportivo Tachira. And even though he was brought from the bench, he was picked by Argentine newspaper Olé as the man of the match.
‘He ignited the team’s attack with acceleration, dribbles and shots from outside the box. He was the main figure in the 23 minutes he played in place of Nacho,’ says the outlet, who then features a whole story about the player.
Echeverri is still 18, and there’s a whole debate about how much playing time he should be getting at River Plate before he leaves them for Manchester City.
The match against Deportivo Tachira was still 0-0 before the youngster was brought on, so Olé highlights how he ‘changed the face’ of his team and was ‘key’ for their win.
It’s pointed out that this will be the only Copa Libertadores Echeverri will play before joining Manchester City, so there’ll be big pressure for him to play in the upcoming games.
‘The fans are desperate to enjoy him,’ writes Olé, hoping that he’ll be able to showcase all his potential in the coming months.
