While it’s clear that Atalanta losing Rasmus Højlund this summer wouldn’t be ideal for the Serie A side, the money they would receive from Manchester United could go a long way.
There have been a mixture of claims regarding the Red Devils’ interest in the Danish striker, who appears to be open to a move to Old Trafford, but the bottom line is: offers, if they have arrived, haven’t been good enough.
We all know the transfer window is long, and a lot can happen between now and the end of August, but Corriere di Bergamo explain on Tuesday that an early agreement could be beneficial for all parties.
They look at the situation surrounding Manchester United and their desire to sign Højlund, making it clear the player ‘could leave’ this summer.
However, it all depends on what the Old Trafford side do and how Antonio Percassi, Atalanta’s president, reacts to it going forward.
They explain that ‘if United and Percassi stalled until the end of the transfer window’, perhaps with Manchester United seeking a discount and the president waiting for a bigger offer, then it could be detrimental to Atalanta.
Because without Højlund in their squad, they would lose a lot of activity up top in Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad, and the €60m they could get from the Premier League side ‘to be reinvested would come too late’.
Therefore, Corriere di Bergamo are urging Percassi to perhaps be a bit more lenient if he does intend to sell Højlund, which could open the door for Manchester United to make a good enough offer for everyone to be happy.
