Anderlecht are unlikely to revive their interest in Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo in the summer after being ‘stunned’ by his move collapsing in January.
That’s according to Voetbal Nieuws, who say the Belgian club are still upset over how his proposed move in January collapsed.
Toffolo appeared to be on his way to Anderlecht towards the end of the January window, having barely featured for Nottingham Forest this season following their promotion to the Premier League.
The deal was cancelled by Forest at the last minute, though, with it initially claimed that they were concerned about a lack of cover following an injury to Renan Lodi.
That has been summarily dismissed in Belgium, though, where Anderlecht were less than impressed with how things had gone down.
they were keen to criticised Nottingham Forest’s behaviour on several occasions, even opening a case against them and looking for a case to be opened by FIFA before abandoning that plan.
VN pick up on that today and explain ‘it is hoped’ that a solution for Toffolo can be found in the summer, with it unlikely he’ll be breaking into the team despite being on a contract until 2026.
However, ‘the chances seem slim’ that Anderlecht will make another attempt to secure his signature as their CEO of Sports Jesper Fredberg was ‘absolutely not amused’ by Nottingham Forest’s behaviour.
In fact, he made that stance clear on a recent podcast, stating that “whoever screws Anderlecht, we screw back” on the subject of the failed transfer.
That would suggest he’s not keen on ever re-opening talks with his counterparts at the City Ground, leaving Toffolo to look elsewhere for his next move.
