On deadline day, Manchester United completed the signing of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
The Red Devils had reportedly been considering signing Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, and had to pick between the 32-year-old and Lammens, who was also a target for Aston Villa.
Manchester United decided to bet on the Belgian, while Martínez is still at Aston Villa.
On Monday, Het Laatste Nieuws shared a picture of Lammens boarding a private jet for his trip to England. A fresh report from HLN gives insight into the details of his move to Old Trafford.
As well as Manchester United and Aston Villa, Galatasaray were also keen. The Villans had shown willingness to offer €25m for the stopper, while Ruben Amroim’s side waited until Sunday to send an official bid. According to the newspaper, the fee proposed was less than what Aston Villa were willing to offer.
On deadline day, Manchester United first agreed personal terms with the 23-year-old, who then travelled to the UK. HLN now report that when he boarded the private jet, Royal Antwerp hadn’t agreed terms with the Red Devils.
They say Lammens was ‘theoretically not allowed to travel, but he did so anyway.’ There was ‘some resentment’ within the club, indicating that the Jupiler Pro League side were unhappy that he had travelled without their approval.
According to the newspaper, Manchester United and Royal Antwerp found an agreement for €22m plus €3m bonuses… when the stopper was mid-air.
