On Wednesday, we covered an article from Genova Today that explained that Genoa had been looking at Celtic’s Gustaf Lagerbielke for a long time, as the Swede was struggling to play under Brendan Rodgers.
Despite arriving at Parkhead in the summer, the centre-back hasn’t been picked that much by the manager, and that has led to stories of a January exit.
Lecce were keen for a while, but the finances of the operation put them off, an issue Genoa won’t be having in their talks with Celtic having recently sold Radu Dragușin, leading to Gazzetta dello Sport reporting the latest on Thursday.
They explain that there is currently a ‘very open channel’ between the Serie A side and the defender, as Lagerbielke remains on Celtic’s ‘list of players who can leave’.
This is why the Italians are trying to ‘speed up the operation’, meaning they want to try and get it done sooner rather than later.
It all depends on what they offer and Celtic’s demands, but considering Lagerbielke only cost Brendan Rodgers’ side €3.4m in the summer, something similar could be enough to acquire his services.
