Beşiktaş are still ‘trying very hard’ to sign Demarai Gray from Everton this summer, despite reports of an impending move to Fulham.
That’s according to journalist Serdar Sarıdağ, who has provided the latest details on the possible move to Turkey.
Gray has been linked with a departure away from Everton throughout this summer after seemingly falling out of favour under Sean Dyche in the second half of last season.
The growing belief is that he doesn’t fit in with Dyche’s plans moving forwards, particularly after the arrival of Arnaut Danjuma added further competition for places on the left wing.
Gray has subsequently been linked with moves to various places, with clubs in Saudi Arabia, England and Turkey all expressing an interest in him.
The interest from Turkey is coming specifically from Beşiktaş, who have a strong relationship with Everton after deals for Cenk Tosun and the loan deal which took Dele Alli to the Super Lig club last season.
A report at the end of last month stated that they were in negotiations with Everton over a deal and had been for some time.
That appeared to be in vain as reports in England have claimed that Everton and Gray have a deal in place for him to move to Fulham, although the Toffees won’t sanction it until they source a replacement.
That could work in Beşiktaş’ favour and Sarıdağ insists the Turkish side are continuing with their efforts to win the race.
“Everything is back to normal in Beşiktaş,” he said.
“The club is in the hands of the managers. You have to do what they say. Transfers happen with money. Money is the only valid thing in football.
“You will not bring anyone by force. They are trying very hard for Gray from Everton. Beşiktaş should solve the right-wing incident as soon as possible.
“When Beşiktaş announces a star name, there is a possibility that the fans will flock to the airport. There are such plans.”
