The news isn’t very good for Boca Juniors fans who wanted Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero to spend the rest of the season at the club.
As covered by Olé this week, the Argentine side have reportedly made an offer to have Romero for only sixteen games, so he could return to England for next season.
But according to the same newspaper today, the player’s first response wasn’t positive. He’d rather stay at the Premier League club, where he hopes of being the number one one day.
Olé hasn’t taken it very well, and keep questioning if Romero will risk his spot in the national team, as Argentina manager Edgardo Bauza recently threatened this, if Romero remains glued to Manchester United’s bench.
The story even mentions the other clubs where Romero was only a second option, and ask the real reasons why he is making these choices.
Romero wasn’t a regular at the end with Sampdoria, or then with Monaco, or now with Manchester United. His aim of being Manchester United’s first choice is ambitious to say the least, even if David De Gea leaves the club.
The final decision actually hasn’t been made yet, and Boca Juniors still hope of convincing the player with other arguments. But this first answer has alerted the club to look for other options already.
An Argentine goalkeeper with the chance of a period with Boca Juniors, with his national team place, which he values highly, under threat, having no interest in the move may seem odd. Manchester United turning it down would be more understandable, but it’s no surprise questions are bing asked in Argentina about Romero.
