Several reports coming out of Spain in May suggested Manchester City have submitted a contract offer to Atletico Madrid’s Rodri and were willing to pay his €70m release clause.
Diego Simeone wants to retain the midfielder and Atletico even offered him a new deal to extend his contract. The former Villarreal man was also told by his employer that they would match the best economic offer he would receive from elsewhere.
Earlier this month, the midfielder asked Los Rojiblancos to ‘give him peace and space’ so that he could take a decision on his future.
Spanish newspaper AS now claims the 22-year-old has communicated to his employer about his decision to leave Wanda Metropolitano and listen to three offers he has received from other clubs.
It’s claimed Pep Guardiola’s side are one of the clubs ‘best placed’ to sign him along with Bayern Munich.
Marca go further, they say Rodri has ‘just informed’ Ángel Gil Marín, Atletico’s CEO, of his desire to leave and that the clause will be used. He’s choosing between City and Bayern.
Mundo Deportivo come out for Guardiola’s side and say: ‘His destination will be Manchester City’. It’s stated Rodri believes he can become the best player in the world, in his position, at the English club.
