On December 24th, Mundo Deportivo explained Zinedine Zidane views Paul Pogba as a ‘necessity’ for Real Madrid.
‘Valverde, Yes; Pogba, No’ is splashed on the front page of AS and this indicates the 13-time European champions aren’t in favour of bringing the World Cup winner to the club.
Within the report, it’s claimed the La Liga side have sent a message to their manager and have urged Zidane to give up his hope of signing the midfielder.
The Real Madrid boss is still waiting for the France international, but his employer doesn’t share the same desire.
Even though Zidane wants his compatriot and Pogba also wants to join Real Madrid, the club will not contemplate spending big on a player who is no longer considered a priority after Valverde’s emergence.
It’s claimed the change in Real’s stance has come after the emergence of Federico Valverde as his evaluation ‘this season is leaps and bounds’.
With the Uruguayan performing at the highest level, Real have informed Zidane there is no need to invest heavily (estimated in excess of €150m) for Pogba.
The report adds ‘Zizou, on the other hand, looks at the situation with different eyes. Pogba is one of his weaknesses and he marries perfectly with the prototype of the player he values most: a box to box that provides physical and technical input.’
Pogba’s contract at Manchester United expires in 2021 and the Red Devils have an option to further extend it by a year.
This transfer dream could be slipping away for two Frenchmen.
