West Ham United have made a fresh offer to sign São Paulo’s Luizão, according to Gazeta Esportiva.
The centre-back came up through the ranks of the Brazilian club’s youth system and made it to their first team earlier this year. His deal with them expires at the end of January 2023 and he’s rejected renewal offers.
It’s claimed West Ham offered 10-15% of his future rights, but this was rejected by São Paulo’s board and they demanded to be compensated accordingly.
The Hammers ‘refuse to pay’ a traditional transfer fee since they can sign a pre-agreement for the 20-year-old to join them in two months’ time. The fee that David Moyes’ side are obliged to pay São Paulo is $300,000 due to FIFA’s solidarity payment mechanism.
Both West Ham and Luizão’s camp are of the belief it will be ‘more advantageous’ for São Paulo to accept the London club’s offer. This could see them earn a fee from his future sale. Either way, the defender is set to leave the South American club.
Gazeta Esportiva state Luizão should be the ‘seventh confirmed departure’ from the São Paulo squad and this indicates his move to West Ham is edging closer.
