AS Monaco have ‘taken information’ on Southampton defender Mohamed Salisu, who looks likely to depart this summer.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the centre-back is one of many who could depart St Mary’s in this window following relegation to the Championship.

They explain that Salisu has not featured for Southampton since March, something they believe shows he is ‘about to leave’, particularly as he only has a year left on his current deal.

That situation is a ‘godsend’ for Monaco, who have taken information on the player and believe he could be an ideal replacement for Malang Sarr, who has gone back to Chelsea. He could also help fill the hole left behind by Axel Disasi should he depart.

At the moment it appears their interest isn’t serious, there’s no mention of a potential transfer fee or talks with Southampton for example and is merely just a passing one.

Indeed, it appears they have requested information on the player in an effort to work out what Southampton might want and if there is a deal there to be done.

His contract situation would suggest that there is, and Salisu is a name to keep an eye on in the coming weeks as a result.
