As Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today writes a story about Gonçalo Inácio which mentions the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur played a big part in it.
Let’s start from the beginning. In the past few days, the Spanish media has been saying that Real Madrid are interested in the Sporting defender, and even claimed that the Lions could accept a deal worth €45m plus €15m in bonuses.
O Jogo now comes up to say his price is €60m, which is the amount of his release clause, and the Lisbon side will not negotiate that being split. Partly because they have no interest in selling now.
The newspaper makes it clear that Real Madrid are not alone in the race, as Manchester United and Liverpool are also interested in Inácio.
It’s then claimed that Sporting do not want a similar deal to the one they made with Tottenham in January. Back then, Spurs paid a fee for a short loan and added a buying option which was bigger than the player’s release clause.
The big issue now is that the Lions are on top of the league table and it doesn’t make any sense to lose such an important player in the middle of the season. Especially because they know clubs will continue to come for Inácio next summer, so there’s no hurry.
So Real Madrid, Manchester United and Liverpool will have to wait, unless they find some sort of deal to only take the player at the end of the season.
