It’s now been nearly five years since Barcelona sold Yerry Mina to Everton, and that transaction is still seen as very good business at the Catalan side.

The reason why that transfer is mentioned this week is a story from Mundo Deportivo today. They have a piece where they recall many centre-backs who’ve played for the Catalan side in the past few years.

There, it’s pointed out that Barcelona only spent €12m to sign Mina from Palmeiras in January 2018, and he only made five appearances for the club before they sold him to Everton a few months later for €12m.

‘Perfect economic operation’, says Mundo Deportivo, clearly referring to the fact the defender never had such a success at the Toffees that could make Barça regret the sale.

Mina has a total of 95 appearances for Everton due to injuries, but things haven’t been great for him at Goodison Park this season, as he was only used four times.

The 28-year-old’s contract with the Toffees expires next summer, and everything indicates he’ll end up walking from the club for free, as it doesn’t make much sense to give him a renewal at this stage.
