While Nottingham Forest fullback Gonzalo Montiel has an uncertain future in European football, he continues to get linked to a comeback to South America.

The latest rumours about the 27-year-old come from Brazil, where Paparazzo Rubro-Negro talks about Flamengo’s interest in him.

It’s said a source at the club confirmed their interest in Montiel, claiming they made an approach in January, but they ended up prioritising other positions.

It’s also claimed that the Nottingham Forest player continues to be ‘well evaluated’ by Flamengo, although his signing would depend on the conditions.

Montiel belongs to Sevilla and is currently loaned to Nottingham Forest until the end of the season. For now, there’s no certainty whether he’d return to the Spanish club.

The fullback, who has only made 14 appearances for the Reds this season, seemed to be improving when getting a sequence of Premier League appearances in January, but then disappeared from the squad again.

With a permanent transfer to Nottingham Forest sounding unlikely, it does make sense that other clubs now start seeing him as a potential summer target.
