Hertha Berlin are ‘still hot’ on the idea of signing Brighton and Hove Albion defender Michal Karbownik this summer, despite already signing a left-back.

That’s according to Kicker, who say the player’s future is open and Hertha would be more than happy to take him if they can.

The newspaper reports that despite the recent signing of left-back Anderson Lucoqui, Hertha’s interest in Karbownik is ‘unabated’.

They are still ‘working on’ a potential deal for Karbownik, who earned himself plenty of admirers in Germany during a loan spell at Fortuna Düsseldorf last season.

Hertha are one of those who are keen on him and Karbownik is ‘open to a move’ to the capital this summer as well. One potential issue is the seven-figure fee that Brighton are looking for, which Hertha can’t afford at this moment in time as they have no financial leeway without securing sales.

Thus, the player is currently on Hertha’s ‘waiting list’ at this moment in time as they look to move players on and then use the funds the bring in replacements.

Hertha are keen nonetheless, favouring Karbownik over other options as he can play in several positions and thus strengthen the squad in numerous areas.

A deal is currently suspended for now, but Hertha are ‘still hot’ on the Brighton man, despite already signing a new left-back in this window.
