Bayern Munich still have Tottenham’s Harry Kane as their favoured option striker wise and believe there are points in their favour, but know a deal will be ‘difficult’.
That’s according to Sky Sports Germany, who cover the chances of Kane joining the German giants in the summer transfer window.
They explain that since Robert Lewandowski’s departure in the summer, Bayern have had Kane ‘at the top of their wish list’.
That’s remained the case despite Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting excelling this season, and the Bundesliga champions still want to sign a replacement to Lewandowski.
Kane would be the ‘new superstar’ at the club and certainly the type of player that Bayern fans ‘dream of’ but the financial package for Tottenham’s star, which would consist of a transfer fee and salary is ‘too expensive’. Bayern, therefore, think it would be difficult to get him.
“Harry Kane is a terrific striker. But it’s an order of magnitude – I think City got out at 140 million last year: I can’t imagine FC Bayern wanting to pay or being able to pay those sums,” Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß recently commented on the matter.
Despite the issues financially, there are however two things that ‘speak in their favour’ for Bayern. The first is sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, who has shown an ability in the recent past that he can convince players about Bayern and a move to Säbener Straße.
Then there is the fact that Tottenham don’t want to sell Kane to another Premier League club, which would therefore make a sale to Bayern very attractive.
Whether a deal can be struck remains to be seen and it seems at Bayern they are pessimistic, but there is some hope nonetheless and therefore the idea of signing Kane this summer is not completely dead yet.
