Inter Milan are currently ‘steps ahead’ in the developing race for Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Quotidiano Sportivo, relayed by Io Tifo Inter, who say Inter have stepped ahead of AC Milan, Roma and Napoli for the 27-year-old.
Chiesa has been enduring a difficult time of things since joining Liverpool in a €12m deal from Juventus at the end of August.
He’s only made three appearances totalling 78 minutes since then, with Arne Slot refusing to put a timeframe on a potential return for him when asked publicly.
That’s led to a slow stream of suggestions he could be making a prompt return to Italy in the January transfer window, where several clubs are believed to be eyeing up a potential loan deal.
Quotidiano Sportivo now provide their take and sale Inter Milan are ‘steps ahead’ of competition such as AC Milan, Roma and Napoli.
According to their information the latter three have all asked for information on the Liverpool outcast but Inter have the advantage because President Beppe Marotta enjoys an ‘excellent relationship’ with the player.
He even wanted to sign Chiesa in the summer and moved for him, but Chiesa chose Liverpool and Juventus accepted what they considered an ‘interesting offer’.
Things have not gone well since then and a loan deal for six months, with a possible right of redemption included, is a formula ‘they are working on’. Chiesa would have to lower his wages, though.
However, it is seen as an operation that would be ‘convenient for everyone’, including Liverpool, but the player first and foremost.
