As well as negotiating the potential arrival of Denis Zakaria, West Ham United are having to make do with relentless attempts from AS Roma to acquire Gianluca Scamacca.
The Italian striker didn’t have the best first season in the Premier League with the Hammers after his transfer from Sassuolo, and talk of a return to his home country has been rife this summer.
The past week has brought some hope to Roma fans that West Ham could be ready to give in, and Gazzetta dello Sport provide an update on the situation on Monday.
They state that, since José Mourinho is showing signs of impatience, ‘the real assault on West Ham begins today’ to convince the Hammers to accept the idea of a paid loan (around €2-3m) ‘with the right to buy’ that would become compulsory if certain terms are met.
Should that happen and West Ham agree to it, it’s believed that the investment would ‘not be less than €22-23m’, suggesting the option to buy would be set at around €20m.
In short, the ‘days of Scamacca’ are starting in Rome, but Gazzetta do also warn their Roman readers that they need to be wary of Inter Milan, who are also fans of the former Sassuolo star.
