Super Deporte report on Monday afternoon that AC Milan have gracefully stepped aside in the battle to sign Shkodran Mustafi. The Serie A club have signed the far cheaper Gustavo Gomez from Lanus instead.
Yet, as we’ve explained more than once, there never really was any big Milan interest or move on Mustafi. All that happened was Milan were linked with new Chinese owners last week, the Fosun group, and then Gazzetta dello Sport published a list of players the club may be interested in if the ownership change actually happened.
Nevertheless, the Valencia press seem determined to continue to push the idea of Mustafi interest. It’s currently top story for both Super Deporte and Plaza Deportivo.
So that leaves Arsenal as the only club left named (Chelsea interest pops up and down every couple of days or so). And yet despite all the hints and assumptions, nothing much is actually happening.
Plaza Deportiva have a big article (top on their website right now) titled: ‘Wenger also loses Gabriel Paulista and Mustafi is next on the agenda’
Again, that seems a gathering of other reports, especially as it says Arsenal wanted Thomas Vermaelen to return, and also mentions a renewed effort to sign Alexandre Lacazette.
Arsenal now have a clear route, and it almost feels like the Valencia press are encouraging and expecting something to happen.
