Just a few days ago, Portimonense president Rodiney Sampaio claimed that Shoya Nakajima’s transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers was ‘80% done’.

The move had first been broken by A Bola, who said the sides had reached a €20m deal. So with such a strong quote from the club’s most powerful man, it seemed like everything was practically done.

However, the story went quiet for a few days, and now, Portimonense’s vice-president Robson Ponte claims that this amount won’t be enough to take their star.

“There are many contacts and some offers, but nothing concrete,” Robson Ponte told O Jogo. The newspaper says the vice-president is ‘reinforcing the idea’ that Nakajima is only leaving for his release clause, which is €40m.

O Jogo lists Shakhtar Donetsk, Sevilla, PSG, Southampton and Wolverhampton as the clubs who are interested in Nakajima.

They say Wolves are the most recent side in that list, but don’t highlight the club as if they were closer to getting the player than the others.

Although we could say that’s one newspaper fighting the information from the other, this case is clearly different, as all the quotes are coming from official sources. So maybe Portimonense realised Nakajima is worth more and will really demand the release clause for him to go.

That seems a lot, and there could be some tough negotiations ahead.
