Former Celtic defender Andreas Hinkel has told the German media the Scottish Premiership champions are a unique club.
Brendan Rodgers’ side take on Bayern Munich tonight at the Allianz Arena, and Celtic will be hoping to continue their form the last Champions League tie, when they defeated Anderlecht.
Speaking to 11Freunde, Hinkel was asked about his former club Celtic, and the first impression he got when he arrived at Celtic Park: “That the club is simply unique – because of its history and fans who give everything for this club. The club was founded by a priest to take money for the poor Irish people in Glasgow and to ease their distress.
“Despite all commercialisation, which of course doesn’t stop even for Celtic, this tradition is still felt.”
Celtic currently have three points from the opening two games in this season’s Champions League thanks to goals from Leigh Griffiths, Patrick Roberts and Scott Sinclair in the 3-0 win over Anderlecht.
However, Rodgers will know his Celtic team have a difficult task ahead of them tonight when they come up against Bayern Munich, with the Bundesliga side firing on all cylinders after their 5-0 win over Freiburg last weekend.
