Last month, Bruno Guimarães committed his future to Newcastle United by signing a new deal until 2028. That hasn’t stopped Barcelona from identifying him as one of their targets for next summer.

The 26-year-old is on the front page of today’s Mundo Deportivo, along with Real Sociedad star Martín Zubimendi and Atalanta’s Ederson. It’s also stated the La Liga side could only sign the Newcastle star through an exchange deal.

Barca are looking to strengthen their midfield for next season and have started that work by identifying the aforementioned players as targets. A potential deal for one of them would depend on several factors, including the club’s economic conditions.

With regards to Guimarães, it’s claimed he would fit perfectly into Barca’s system and his physicality would be a plus, if they were to acquire his signature.

Mundo say the Brazil international would be a ‘luxury’ signing for the Catalan club, taking into account that Eddie Howe’s side will demand around €100m for him.

This isn’t feasible for Barca, but they could offer their own player to the Magpies, to make a deal for the South American cheaper. This is where Raphinha fits in, even though it may seem like wishful thinking from Barcelona.

The newspaper states the winger has lost prominence under Xavi Hernández and Newcastle have ‘always wanted’ him.

Unsurprisingly, Mundo haven’t provided an update on Guimarães or Newcastle’s stance on this possible exchange operation.
